Another month has ticked by and I can honestly say I’ve barely noticed. It has been over a month since we set our highly ambitious New Year’s resolutions. The good intentions now firmly lying somewhere under that large bar of chocolate, which will be promptly washed down with a quadruple vodka and lime. I’m joking, although the vow to ‘be healthy’ is now only a mere memory in the back of my mind.
While a few of my friends seemed to have been able to stick to their resolutions and are becoming remarkably more sensible as the term progresses, others like me are still trying to learn the meaning of the words ‘respectable’ and ‘sensible’. This means swapping a whole packet of biscuits for an actual meal and attempting to go to bed before half 2 every night in the attempt to banish the zombie look I’ve been sporting recently. These were all focused on one particular aim, to try and knuckle down on my studies, rather than getting distracted by eating fried chicken, playing beer pong and all the other shenanigans that seem to pop up.
However, on evaluation, I realise I’m not a fan of resolutions. I went to bed at half past 1 last night, and I didn’t eat dinner due to the crazy amount of doughnuts I consumed at Lunch. And this ‘routine’ is a regular occurrence. From this it is plain to see that resolutions don’t work or at least my poor efforts haven’t. Therefore, in future I’m going to try and make goals throughout the year as it’s far more realistic and productive, or at least that’s what I’ll tell myself.
So, having bored you to death with my resolution rant, what else is new this month?
Well, it was reading week this week. Initially, my first thought was this is just like half term. I went back home for a few days, which was lovely as I got to rest and recuperate, rinse the ‘rents for more food and money and eat them out of house and home. Then happy and content I was packed off back on a train to Bath mid week to reclaim my independence and start tackling the massive amount of work I have yet to touch.
Upon returning midweek, I was expecting a fantastic welcome back. Instead one very lonely housemate and the mess that is our flat greeted me. I shouldn’t have been surprised since it was in this state when I left. However I’ve realized that because we’re all so relaxed and comfortable around each other that things like rubbish bags and general cleanliness of the kitchen seemed to have slipped a little. As the terms have gone on what once would seem unhygienic has now become perfectly acceptable, and this worries me a little.
With that in mind I think one of these so-called goals I was rattling on about earlier should be to clean the kitchen more and be altogether more hygienic. Because, the state things are in at the moment, we’ll all be struck down by food poisoning otherwise.
February has been a quick month for me where not a lot out of the ordinary has happened. Uni, work, fun and games, the usual. But next month there are a multitude of Birthdays and Easter, so March should be a little livelier and hopefully nowhere near as cold.
Now, I’m off to go and pretend to do some work. Until next month!
